PKT: A Simple but Powerful Philosophy

“PKT” is shorthand for the powerful “trifecta” of factors that comprise the foundation of the NuMinds philosophy toward gifted education. These three elements–Passion, Knowledge, and Talent–most certainly exist within each of us, but when they are harnessed by a skillful teacher with the right curriculum and brought into a state of harmony and balance, the student has the opportunity to realize maximum success, happiness and fulfillment.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1429205505138{margin-top: 30px !important;margin-bottom: 30px !important;border-top-width: 10px !important;padding-top: 10px !important;border-color: #223778 !important;border-style: solid !important;}” align_title=”left” overlay=”ewf-row-overlay-transparent” ewf_row_title=”Full width”][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Oprah-Quote-1024x345[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1424280892654{padding-top: 10px !important;padding-right: 10px !important;padding-bottom: 10px !important;padding-left: 10px !important;background-color: #dddddd !important;}”][vc_column_text]

All children are naturally curious and can find opportunities to learn anywhere. A gifted child shows more than a passing or whimsical curiosity. His innate hunger to learn or resolve lingering questions becomes a driving passion. Dinosaurs, space travel, painting, ecology, life after death–these can become the passions in which a gifted child immerses himself.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1429205547969{margin-top: 30px !important;margin-bottom: 30px !important;border-top-width: 10px !important;padding-top: 10px !important;border-color: #223778 !important;border-style: solid !important;}” align_title=”left” overlay=”ewf-row-overlay-transparent” ewf_row_title=”Full width”][vc_column width=”1/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1424281174506{padding-top: 10px !important;padding-right: 10px !important;padding-bottom: 10px !important;padding-left: 10px !important;background-color: #dddddd !important;}”][vc_column_text]

The next question becomes how much does he know about dinosaurs, space travel, etc.? The dedicated parent scours the library and internet for the resources to nourish their gifted learner’s voracious appetite for knowledge. But a parent’s time and resources are limited, and the standard school curriculum may not satisfy this thirst for specific knowledge.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Einstein-Quote-1024x345[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1429205557128{margin-top: 30px !important;margin-bottom: 30px !important;border-top-width: 10px !important;border-color: #223778 !important;border-style: solid !important;}” align_title=”left” overlay=”ewf-row-overlay-transparent” ewf_row_title=”Full width”][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Goethe-Quote-1024x345[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1424281555322{padding-top: 10px !important;padding-right: 10px !important;padding-bottom: 10px !important;padding-left: 10px !important;background-color: #dddddd !important;}”][vc_column_text]

The third aspect of the trifecta is a child’s talent. A student who loves dinosaurs (passion) and can name from memory all the great lizards of the Jurassic period (knowledge) is showing a talent not only for memorization but also for scientific or naturalistic thinking. But what can he do with this talent? By developing all three aspects of the PKT philosophy, he can begin to analyze, explore, and create as he hones and strengthens his talent.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1429205565295{margin-top: 30px !important;margin-bottom: 30px !important;border-top-width: 10px !important;padding-top: 0px !important;border-color: #223778 !important;border-style: solid !important;}” align_title=”left” overlay=”ewf-row-overlay-transparent” ewf_row_title=”Full width”][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]

Finding the PKT “Sweet Spot”

When you request a PKT+ Needs Analysis, you and your child will complete a detailed survey and interview, allowing us to create a visual representation of your child’s passions, knowledge and talent in the form of a triple Venn diagram:

The graph reveals the interconnectivity between your child’s passion, knowledge and talents. The goal of NuMinds Enrichment is to work with your child to move areas on the outside towards the middle–that magical PKT sweet spot where all three are in balance. The detailed report you receive with your PKT+ will explain how each area of the diagram provides key insight into the best enrichment options for your child.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1429205575668{margin-top: 35px !important;margin-bottom: 35px !important;border-top-width: 10px !important;padding-top: 0px !important;border-color: #223778 !important;border-style: solid !important;}” align_title=”left” overlay=”ewf-row-overlay-transparent” ewf_row_title=”Full width”][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

The PKT+ Needs Analysis:

Helping students find their spark.

As schools center their focus on learning, parents take on the task of finding the best enrichment for their kids. But often, these choices are more closely aligned with the parent’s interest–leaving the kid to say, “Awww, Mom! Not piano lessons!” We believe all students possess the spark of genius inside of them; it’s just a matter of figuring out what makes them tick.
